Navigating PCOS: Root Causes, Real Stories, and Supportive Solutions
“You are not alone on this journey.”
That was the heart of a recent Million Mom Movement community call, hosted by Council Members Nayeva Florie and Dominique Jeffries, focused on cycles, stories, and support for women navigating PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome).
PCOS affects 1 in 10 women of childbearing age and often brings a confusing mix of symptoms—irregular cycles, weight challenges, acne, unwanted hair growth, mood swings, and infertility struggles. Too often, women are met with “band-aid” prescriptions that don’t address the root cause. This call was an empowering reminder that PCOS is not just about hormones—it’s about whole-body balance.
The Root Causes of PCOS
Nayeva explained how environmental toxins, stress, and diet play a major role:
Endocrine disruptors in soaps, detergents, perfumes, and cosmetics overload the body.
Glyphosate and processed foods inflame the gut and disrupt insulin sensitivity.
Stress and survival mode elevate cortisol, worsening hormonal imbalance.
Insulin resistance raises androgen (testosterone) levels, creating many PCOS symptoms.
In short: the body is crying out for support.
Emotional Root Causes and Self-Compassion
Dominique added another powerful lens: emotional root causes. She shared how PCOS can mirror deeper patterns of survival mode, suppressed anger, lack of boundaries, fear, or shame.
“Our bodies are asking us to create safety,” she said. “Safety to release stress, emotions, and toxins—not just sugar or fat.”
She reminded us that self-love, community, and boundaries are just as important as diet in restoring balance.
A Story of Hope: Nicole’s Journey
One of the most moving moments came from Nicole Olinger, just six days postpartum with her second child. She shared how she once battled cystic acne, poor gut health, sleep struggles, and the overwhelm of PCOS.
Instead of quick fixes, Nicole chose root solutions:
Reducing stress—including changing to a less demanding job
Switching to regenerative, organic foods
Supporting her body with daily movement, hydration, and sunlight
Incorporating superfoods to nourish her gut, liver, and hormones
Within 5 months, her symptoms reversed. She went on to conceive easily—twice—and today is thriving as a mother of two.
“I just want to share that there’s hope,” Nicole said. “You can feel better and restore your body.”
Supportive Superfoods for Hormonal Balance
The call highlighted how targeted nutrition can be a game-changer:
Ultimate Lifestyle Transformation (ULT): A foundation of plant-based protein, fruits, vegetables, and gut support for daily balance.
Super Aminos 23: Pure vegan protein to build muscle, burn fat, and support hormones.
Biome Medic: Helps detox glyphosate and restore gut health.
Power Shake: Easy daily greens to reduce inflammation and balance blood sugar.
Apothe-Cherry: Rich in antioxidants to support sleep, liver health, and recovery.

Barley Green Juice & Kamut Blend: Minerals and blood sugar support—also helpful for milk supply postpartum.
MenoPositive & Women’s Defense: Herbal formulas to bring calm and hormonal balance.
Each woman may choose a different starting point, but the message was clear: flood the body with nutrients, reduce toxins, and create safety and balance from the inside out.
